3 kids swept away by Maharashtra river, 2 women jump in to save them, also drown

The victims are Tejaswini Arte, 11; Tushar Arte, 7; Shubham Vaknis, 7; Gauri Arte, 35, and Menakshi Vaknis, 30.

Khalapur police said the children had been bathing in the river when they waded into the deep end, where the current swept them away. The women were washing clothes nearby. Police suspect they jumped into the river to save their children and drowned. Their bodies were recovered and sent to a government hospital, where a post-mortem will be conducted.

Police registered a case of accidental death.
