Officials had seized 388kg of mephedrone in 2015, which was valued at Rs38.78 crore. Officials had intercepted a car and subsequently a factory in Sangli was raided, which led to drug being seized.

In another case, 92.34g of heroin worth Rs9.23 lakh was seized from a Ghana national. The drugs were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. “A drug disposal committee (DDC) was constituted to undertake pre-trial disposal of the seized narcotics drugs,” said M.V.S Choudary, commissioner.

The drugs were incinerated at a factory in Mundhwa, Pune in the presence of the DDC and other officers from the customs. Officials stated that adequate precautions were taken to ensure that the drugs are properly disposed of.
