Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has agreed to join hands with the state government to tackle farmer suicides in Vidarbha. The actor is likely to adopt the village with the highest cases of suicides in Yavatmal district with the plan to create maximum number of job opportunities to make the families self-sufficient.

Finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar met the actor on Wednesday to discuss the plan for the collaboration with actor to fight with the agrarian crisis. Kumar has been financially assisting the farmers in dealing with the agrarian crisis over the last couple of years. He extended the support to the state government for systematic help to the farmers.

“We are preparing a detailed report which will have the details of the total number of suicides in the village, the reasons for the suicides, the potential measures for the job creations. We will hand over the report prepared by the district collector to the office of the actor, who has promised us to implement it,” Mungantiwar said. He added, “Akshay has also assured us that he will pay a visit to the village while the scheme is being implemented.”

The minister said that instead of the monetory help to the families of the farmers who have committed suicide, the government wants to create jobs by tapping into traditional sources.
