Assessment mess: Mumbai university halves re-evaluation fees
Students will now have to pay Rs250 and Rs50 for re-evaluation and photocopies. Earlier, they were paying Rs500 and Rs100
Amid the chaos surrounding the online assessment of answer booklets, the University of Mumbai (MU) on Monday decided to reduce the fees charged for re-evaluation and providing photocopies of answer sheets.
Students will now have to pay Rs250 and Rs50 for re-evaluation and photocopies. Earlier, they were paying Rs500 and Rs100. The MU also said the photocopies would sent out in digital formats via e-mails.
The decision comes after a few students’ organisations asked the varsity to reduce the fees. The rush to evaluate answer papers was affecting the assessment quality and many students were forced to seek reassessment, the groups had argued.
However, the varsity officials said the fees was reduced due to lower cost of re-evaluation and photocopying under the new onscreen marking system.
“Due to onscreen assessment, the university will no longer have to separately spend on photocopying of answer sheets. Scanned copies will be sent to colleges for evaluation, instead of having evaluators visiting centralised assessment process (CAP) centres to assess physical copies,” read a statement issued by the varsity.
