“The middle FOB connecting platforms 1, 2 and 3 will be closed from August 9 to September 3 for carrying out repairs. Therefore, passengers are requested to kindly bear with the railway administration,” said Sunil Udasi, chief public relations officer, CR.

The Badlapur railway station sees a footfall of around 80,000 passengers every day, and has two FOBs.

“After last year’s Elphinstone station stampede, a survey was carried out. It was then decided that the British-era foot oberbridge be repaired. The other FOB is new and was constructed only seven-eight years ago,” said Shyam Ubale, general secretary, Kalyan-Kasara-Karjat passengers association.

Commuters have welcomed the move.

“We are ready to face a little inconvenience as the repair work is important for a safe commute,” said Shabri Naik, 27, a regular commuter.

“The railways should deploy more force to man the crowd on the new FOB,” said Vikas Khare, 45, a commuter from Badlapur.

Udasi assured that the railways have deployed additional security to manage the crowd.

“Additional security will be deputed at the station until the new foot overbridge opens,” said Udasi.
