A town planning officer of City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has been booked for allegedly taking a bribe of ₹6.5 lakh bribe to allot a plot of land.
Priyadarshan Waghmare has not been arrested yet as he has recently been transferred to Amravati district, a senior officer said.
According to the police, the complainant is a project-affected person and he was supposed to get an open plot in Navi Mumbai from Cidco under the 12.5% scheme.
“Waghmare had told the project-affected man that he would get a plot at a prominent location at Roadpali (plot number 20 at Sector 20) if he paid ₹7 lakh. A deal was struck between them and the complainant gave him ₹6.5 lakh last year,” said Ramesh Chavan, deputy superintendent of police (ACB), Navi Mumbai.
“After taking the cash, Waghmare found that the plot had been given to another person in 2008. After a few months, Waghmare returned ₹2.5 lakh to the complainant. But, he failed to return the rest of the money to him,” he said.
After receiving a complaint from the project-affected man on Saturday, the ACB officials registered a first information report against Waghmare at CBD Belapur police station.
“Waghmare misused his position by accepting cash illegally. We have booked him for criminal misconduct and cheating. He will be arrested soon,” Chavan said.
