Class 11 to get concept-based syllabus soon
The state’s textbook wing, Balbharti, recently released an outline of the curricula for Class 11 and 12 and has also listed out the competencies on the basis of which students will be tested.
Class 11 students will get a concept-based syllabus from the upcoming academic year (2019-2020) as part of the revised curriculum.
The state’s textbook wing, Balbharti, recently released an outline of the curricula for Class 11 and 12 and has also listed out the competencies on the basis of which students will be tested. The syllabus for Class 12 would be revised from the 2020-2021 academic year. “The textbooks will have activity based questions — a shift from the factual approach that has been followed till now,” said a senior official from the education department.
“Since this is a new syllabus, we are open to suggestions from stakeholders, schools and education experts,” said Sunil Magar, director, Balbharti.
Teachers said the department should release the complete syllabus rather than giving just competencies. “Competencies are vague and what will be taught within each subject isn’t clearly defined. This seems just like a formality,” said Anil Deshmukh, secretary of the city’s junior college teachers’ association.
