The Maharashtra unit of the Congress has requested party president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to attend at least 15 public meetings and rallies ahead of the Assembly polls in the state. The party has planned at least three meetings each for the Gandhi family leaders. Congress and NCP leaders are also holding last-minute meetings to decide on the candidates in six constituencies where both parties have fielded names.

The coordination committee, headed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge, Maharashtra, Mallikarjun Kharge, met in Mumbai to chalk out a strategy for the election.

“Khargeji has spoken to Rahul Gandhi and has requested for a maximum number of rallies. Soniaji, Rahulji, and Priyankaji are expected to hold more than 15 rallies across the state. The rallies will be held in 10 days post-October 10, as per their availability,” said Avinash Pande, in-charge of the election war room and senior party leader from Vidarbha.

Congress’s state leaders on Saturday held rounds of meetings with NCP chief Sharad Pawar after the two parties failed to arrive at a consensus in six constituencies.

Both parties have fielded their candidates in Aheri, Pandharpur, Solapur, Ballarshaha, Melghat and Palghar.

NCP is expected to withdraw its candidates from Ballarshah, Melghat and Palghar, and Solapur while Congress may withdraw its candidates from Aheri and Pandharpur.
