Yesteryear Bollywood superstar Dharmendra was admitted to a suburban hospital on Monday afternoon owing to gastric complications. The doctors of Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital (NSSH) said the 81-year-old actor is stable now and will be discharged in a day or two.
The actor was suffering from gastroenteritis, an intestinal infection marked by diarrhoea, cramps, nausea, vomiting and fever. He was immediately put on antibiotic treatment and his condition stabilised thereafter, the doctors said.
“He responded well to the treatment and the infection has subsided. Looking at his health conditions, we believe he will not need longer hospitalisation,” said Dr Vishesh Agarwal, MD (medicine), NSSH. The doctors added that they will keep the ‘Sholay’ star under observation for 48 hours and will take a call on discharge, considering his recovery in the period.
In May last year, the actor was taken to the Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai after he sustained injuries on the set of his film. He had also undergone a shoulder surgery for the injury.
