A 38-year-old man drowned in a swimming pool of a Virar resort on Sunday night. The Vasai fire brigade took him out of the pool and rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

A case of accidental death was registered by Arnala coastal police station.

Shyam Suresh Trimul, a resident of Kandivli, had gone to the resort with a group of friends on Sunday afternoon. After consuming alcohol with his friends, he went to the pool around 8pm for a swim without informing anyone.

Later, his friends found him in the pool and alerted the resort staff, who called the fire brigade.

There was no lifeguard present at the pool at the time of the incident, and police are probing the cause of his death.
