Massive fire near Maya Hotel in Mumbai’s Mankhurd doused, no casualties

The brigade was able to bring the fire under control at 9:45 am after fighting it for over three hours.

A major fire broke out on Sunday morning near Maya Hotel, Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link road.

The fire which started around 6 am was declared a level 4 fire at about 6:45 am with 20 fire tenders at the spot. The fire brigade’s response time was 13 minutes.

Officials said the fire was confined to scrap lying in a 10,000 sq ft area. Twenty fire engines and 10 water tankers were at the spot to douse the fire. No one was injured in the incident.

The brigade was able to bring the fire under control at 9:45 am after fighting it for over three hours. Over fifty commercial galas were affected in the fire.

According to the fire department, the structure was unauthorised. The owners will be charge sheeted.

Chief fire officer PS Rahangdale said, “Nobody has been hurt. The shops which caught fire had plastic drums, oil, packaging material, plastic bottles, plywood, wooden furniture, chemicals and other scrap materials.”

Private water tankers had to be called on site to help douse the fire, said fire officials.
