Fire brigade rescues girl thrown into river by father

A six-year-old girl, Ekta Saini, was rescued after her father threw her into a river at Badlapur on Thursday. On Wednesday, Ekta went with her father to buy sandals, police said. When they reached near Arenjad bridge, the father who is yet to be caught, lifted her and threw her into the river under the bridge. He then fled from the spot. A police officer from Badlapur west police station said, “There were some mangroves near the river. The girl somehow managed to cling to a tree. On Thursday, a local who was passing by the bridge, heard Ekta’s cries for help. He alerted other locals and the girl was rescued after ten hours with the help of fire brigade officials. A case was registered with the Badlapur police station, after which it was transferred to Vartak Nagar police station.
