Police have been diverting traffic well before the accident spot, which was a bit of a disaster zone with officials worried about gas leaking while hundreds of people were trapped in their vehicles. People with young children and aged relatives struggled to cope.
Commuter Kishore Parmar, who left Dombivli in a private travel bus to go towards Rajasthan, was stuck at Ghodbunder since 1pm.
Parmar said, “I had opened a new shop in Rajasthan and was on my way for the opening of the shop scheduled tomorrow. I am stuck at Ghodbunder for more than four hours as the traffic isn’t moving at all. There is also no option for the bus to turn backwards and take another route. I am bound to miss the opening.”
“Vehicular traffic going from Thane to Ahmedabad is shut up to Versova bridge (Fountain hotel) and traffic coming from Ahmedabad to Thane is closed from Versova bridge (Fountain hotel),” said Mahesh Patil, superintendent of police, Thane rural.
