Maha polls: In Alibaug, 5 Subhash Patils file their nominations

In Raigad’s Alibaug constituency, five candidates who have filed their nominations have the same name. The sitting Peasants and Workers Party of India (PWP) MLA Subhash Prabhakar Patil has called it “dirty tactics” by his opponents, who fear him.

PWP’s Subhash Patil filed his nomination on Tuesday, along with four independent candidates – Subhash Laxman Patil, Subhash Janardan Patil, Subhash Gangaram Patil and Subhash Damodar Patil. The last day for filing nominations for the state Assembly polls is Friday. The polling date for Maharashtra is October 21, and election results are to be declared on October 24.

PWP’s Patil told HT, “According to my information, more people with the same name are going to file their nominations, but I don’t pay attention to it. I don’t want to name any party or any individual, but this is a trick by opponents to stop me from winning. It won’t work considering my voters know my election symbol, and I’ll remind them about it during my campaign.”

The PWP is contesting the elections in alliance with the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Meanwhile, in the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, the Alibaug seat is likely to go with the Shiv Sena, however, a formal announcement is still awaited.

Earlier, during the Lok Sabha polls, NCP’s senior leader Sunil Tatkare, who contested from Raigad, faced a similar situation, with two independent candidates.
