Mumbai civic body nod to Lalbaug flyover’s Rs18 crore repair
The BMC planned to carry out structural repairs costing around ₹18 crore, after cracks and gaps showed up on the flyover’s lanes
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) standing committee on Wednesday passed the proposal to undertake comprehensive repairs of the seven-year-old Lalbaug flyover.
The BMC planned to carry out structural repairs costing around ₹18 crore, after cracks and gaps showed up on the flyover’s lanes. The repair work is expected to begin after monsoon and will take around six months, said chief engineer (bridges) Shitalaprasad Kori.
“We had resurfaced the flyover a couple of times earlier, but this time the entire flyover will undergo repairs. Freyssinet Prestressed Concrete Company Ltd, the lowest bidder, has repaired many flyovers across the country,” Kori told HT
The 2.45-km-long flyover, which stretches from ITC, Parel to Jijamata Udyan, Byculla, is the second longest in the city, after the JJ flyover.
After several accidents on the flyover, MMRDA had slapped a show cause notice to the contractor, Simplex Infrastructure. The flyover was then handed over to BMC for repairs and maintenance.
