A 43-year-old advocate was arrested by the Kalachowki police, for allegedly forcing a 14-year-old girl into marriage.

According to the complaint registered by the minor, her grandparents forced her to marry the lawyer and in return he would transfer six acres of land in Sangli to her name.

According to prosecution, she claimed that when she was in the ninth standard, her grandparents started looking for a suitable match for her, even though she denied.

In 2015 the grandparents forced her to attend a matrimonial meeting arranged with the advocate. She was told that his first wife had expired and hence he was looking for a second match.

After the meeting, the accused proposed her for marriage and offered to transfer the land in her name, for her security. The two married on April 21, 2015 in Sangli.

The minor claimed that the marriage was consummated and he forced himself upon her.

She also said that he later started questioning her character and abused her. After they shifted to Mumbai in July this year, he started doubting her and assaulted her even more. Hence she lodged a police complaint.

Investigations revealed that the accused had been practising in Bombay High court. He was aware of girl being underage, yet he married and sexually abused her.

The lawyer is in custody of Kalachowki police station for further investigation.
