According to officials, the contractors who applied for the three packages did not fulfil one of the tender conditions. Radheshyam Mopalwar, vice-chairman and managing director of MSRDC, said, “These three packages involve the construction of tunnels and 25 viaducts, mainly in the Thane district. Our condition was that the companies should also have experience in tunnel-building outside their country of origin.”

The bids have been invited again because the companies failed to fulfil the condition, Mopalwar added. However, MSRDC has completed the process of acquiring 60% of the land required for the 701-km expressway, also touted to be chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ dream project.
