Twitter users, too, supported the woman:

According to the Mankhurd police, Nadeem Naim, 25, was a drug addict. Fed up with his addiction and beatings, his wife wanted to leave the house, but her mother-in-law Anwari Idrisi, 45, convinced her to stay back. She also promised her daughter-in-law she would intervene the next time her son attacked her.

On Tuesday night, Nadeem beat up his mother and wife. When he got tired, Anwari pushed him towards a steel ladder, tied her dupatta around his neck and strangled him.

After Nadeem died, Anwari sat next to his body, weeping the entire night.
