A light drizzle fell on the outskirts of Mumbai, in areas such as Ulhasnagar, Thane and Navi Mumbai. Light rain was also recorded in Mulund and Nahur. A light drizzle was also observed at south Mumbai on Monday afternoon.
Officials from the weather bureau said weather conditions were conducive to pre-monsoon showers in the city. “An anti-cyclonic circulation over the north Arabian Sea was suppressing any kind of convection that could lead to cloud formation over Mumbai and the Konkan coast. This weather phenomenon has died down, allowing the formation of moisture-carrying clouds. We expect light rain along the Konkan coast for the next few days,” said Sunita Devi, weather central, India Meteorological Department, Pune.
Meanwhile, day and night temperatures in Mumbai and suburbs were a degree Celsius above normal. Moisture levels were high, with south Mumbai recording 81% humidity and 72% in the suburbs.
