Nobody was injured in the accident even as the bus was full with passengers. However, the bus was totally damaged.

According to fire brigade officials, the bus was going towards Karave village from Nerul railway station. When it was crossing sector 28, a tyre near the driver’s seat exploded.

“The engine of the vehicle turned hot due to the tyre blast and it soon caught fire. The passengers on board were brought out and taken to a safe distance,” said JS Tandel, a fire official from Nerul.

“The fire spread too fast and it engulfed the entire vehicle within a few minutes. Two fire tenders from Nerul and one from Belapur reached the spot. However, by the time we doused the fire, the bus was totally burnt,” he said.

The NMMT officials towed away the burnt bus at night.
