A 28-year-old private taxi driver was arrested on Thursday for assaulting a traffic police and blocking highway vehicles.
He also shot a video of the police trying to calm him down after taking action against him.
Rakesh Pal, a resident of Mumbai, was stopped by the police near Brahmand signal on Ghodbunder Road for not wearing a seat belt. He was ferrying a passenger when the incident happened.
The police said Pal was driving without a seat belt and had also jumped the signal. The on-duty traffic constable, Mahadev Hajare, who is in his 30s, signaled Pal to stop.
“When Pal kept driving, Hajare came in front of the car and asked Pal to get down and show his driving licence. Pal got angry and said he had to drop the passenger. Hajare asked to pay fine but Pal got angry. The passenger too complained against Pal for being rude,” said a police officer from Thane commissionerate.
Officer added, “Pal got more angry and started hitting Hajare. Soon other police constables reached the spot. He then blocked the main highway and started waving at any vehicle to stop and tell about the cops.”
“Pal also took out his mobile phone and shot the video of police constable who was making receipt of fine,” the officer said.
Pal was arrested by Kapurbawdi police station.
