Scriptwriter arrested for raping 19-year-old aspiring model in Mumbai

The woman came to Mumbai from Surat a year ago, hoping to get a job in the film industry

The Oshiwara police arrested 49-year-old scriptwriter on Monday for allegedly raping a 19-year-old aspiring model in his house-cum-office twice. The accused was produced before the court and remanded in police custody till March 15.

The woman came to Mumbai from Surat a year ago, hoping to get a job in the film industry. She met the accused through mutual friends. He promised her to give her roles in television serials and films.

The accused called the woman to his house in first week of February on the pretext of offering her a role in one of his films. However she said he raped her, said a police officer.

A week later, the accused called the woman to his house and raped her again. She approached the Oshiwara police station on Saturday.

A case of rape and cheating was registered, added the officer.

“The complainant underwent a medical test, the reports of which are awaited,” said Subhash Khanvilkar, senior inspector, Oshiwara police station.
