Shiv Sena attacks BJP, says ruling party must fulfil its promises

After BJP President Amit Shah recently declared that it was not possible for the government to provide jobs to everyone, the Shiv Sena hit out at its former ally, claiming that it was imperative for ruling parties to fulfil their election promises.

In its mouthpiece Saamana, the Sena said that promises and commitments need to be honoured. “If political parties are just going to make promises and not fulfil them, people will stop trusting politicians and elections,” stated the editorial. “We know that power corrupts and causes rulers to lose their memory sometimes,” added the article.

On completing three years of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre, BJP chief Amit Shah had said on May 26 that it was not possible for the government to dole out jobs to everyone and so it was promoting self-employment.

The Sena also said that debt-ridden farmers and unemployment among youths remained burning issues in the country and the party was determined to resolve them.

In its editorial, it also took on Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari who too had recently said that it was impossible to waive farmers loans.

“Gadkari said that waiving loans will not be possible and has a reputation for speaking the truth without mincing words. When we were in the Opposition we used to demand a loan waiver but that is not possible now,” the Sena said.

It, however, added that the Narendra Modi government was the last ray of hope for Indians and so the Centre and the state governments have to live up to people’s expectations.
