Three men booked for beating 42-year-old constable in Thane

A 42-year-old constable was assaulted by three people when he stopped their car at Kasarwadavli in Thane on Wednesday night.

Contables Dashrath Pawar, 42, and Sau Sakhade, 38, from Kasarwadavli police unit, were patrolling on a bike when they saw a car parked near Gaimukh at Bhayanderpada in Thane.

“There were three people in the car, including the driver. We asked them to get down as we want to search the vehicle. I got in the car from and asked the driver to open the car’s dicky. Sakhade was behind the car. Suddenly, the other two jumped into the car and the driver started the car with me inside,” said Pawar.

Pawar said he kept telling them to stop or take the car to police station.

“The two started beating him up. They threatened to throw him out of the running car. In the scuffle, Pawar managed to pull the driver’s shirt which made him lose control of the vehicle and he drove over a footpath and hit a tree,” said D Dhole, senior police inspector from Kasarwadavli police station.

The three ran away towards the forest cover and Pawar called up the control room. “We will arrest them soon. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code,” added Dhole.

The police suspect that the three people were robbers, who robbed diesel from trucks plying on the highway. The police have found an empty can from the car, which has been seized. The car owner is from Kurla in Mumbai.
