Nearly three months after a 25-year-old man was murdered in Bandra, the Kherwadi police on Saturday, arrested the man’s aunt and uncle for their alleged involvement in the case.

The youth was beaten to death by the couple and two men over a dispute, the police said. While the two men were arrested immediately after the murder, the couple was arrested based on an eyewitness account.

According to the Kherwadi police, the deceased Sudhir Pawar, 25, a carpenter, was a resident of Bandra. The arrested accused Anant Shinde, 57, and his wife Asmita Shinde, 52 are Pawar’s uncle and aunt.

Last year, on November 7 Pawar was beaten to death with a hammer, hockey stick and a bamboo. Police arrested Rakesh Sahani, 23 and Chotelal Sahani, 34, both carpenters, a day later.

The police had learnt that Chotelal and Rakesh had accepted a contract to make a wooden drawer for Pawar, but did not deliver on time.

This had led to a fight after Pawar abused them under influence of alcohol. The police then arrested them for Pawar’s murder.

However, investigation revealed that on the day of the incident, Pawar had a fight with his uncle and aunt, who he had previous enmity with.

The couple had beaten him up and Chotelal and Rakesh, who are tenants had joined the fight. A police official said it was Asmita, who beat up Chotelal and made up a story that Pawar hit him and Rakesh, in order to show, the two were only defending themselves.
