Waterlogged streets, tree fall in Thane owing to heavy rain

Thane received around 150 mm of rainfall since Tuesday afternoon.

More than thirteen places in the city experienced water logging owing to heavy rainfall since Tuesday afternoon. More than 17 trees also fell since Tuesday afternoon. Although the water receded by morning, the roads remained empty as most people chose not to venture out of the house. Schools also remained shut in the city.

Santosh Kadam, regional disaster management officer of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), said, “Around 17 incidents of tree falling were reported throughout the night. Two people suffered minor injuries, while two houses were damaged in the tree fall. Mukesh Shinde, 31 and Dampal Mane, 27 suffered minor injuries when a tree fell down on Mahendra Bolero pickup near Majiwada Petrol pump. A huge tree fell on a bus near Kalwa at 8.15am leading to traffic congestion. An nullah wall also collapsed, while water logging complaints were received from thirteen areas in the city”

The department has issued a high tide warning at 1.45pm, and asked people to stay in touch with the department on the helpline 1800 222 108.
