Two weeks after a 25-year-old man set Amravati Harijan, 46, on fire after she confronted him for sexually harassing women in Bandra, she succumbed to 95% burns on Thursday night.

Bandra police said the incident took place in Ganesh Nagar, a slum pocket. The accused, Deepak Jat, was misbehaving with women in the area, when Harijan confronted him. Enraged, he poured petrol on her and set her on fire with a lighter.

Senior police inspector Pandit Thakare of the Bandra police station told HT that Jat was booked under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
