MUMBAI: A 20-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly threatening to upload the selfies of his former girlfriend if she didn’t get back with him. The man has been booked for assault, molestation, stalking and intimidation.

According to the Byculla police, the 19-year-old college student and the accused (name withheld by the police) met through a common friend and were in a relationship for 10 months. The couple took selfies at Worli sea face and at a playground in Central Mumbai. They broke up in December, after the man allegedly beat her up, suspecting she was having an affair with a classmate. The girl snapped ties with him. On being questioned by her mother about the change in her behaviour, she narrated the incident.
The girl’s parents then took her to Bhoiwada police station, where the youth and his mother were summoned. The police left the man after warning him to stay away from the girl.
When the girl’s college started in June, the man allegedly started stalking and harassing her.
The girl told her mother about it, who approached the Byculla police station. An FIR has been filed under section 354 A (sexual harassment), 354 D (stalking), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (use of word, word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
Senior police inspector Avinash Shingte of Byculla police station confirmed the development.
