With University of Mumbai (MU) sticking to September 30 as the deadline for admissions, colleges are worried they may not be able to start the courses this academic year.

“Since the approvals came through very late, it doesn’t make sense to start admissions this year. Colleges can start this process in the next academic year rather than rushing into it,” said MA Khan, registrar, MU.

“Even though the GR declaring this news was out on September 9, we were informed about the approvals on September 16 . The minute we received approval letters, we forwarded our application to the joint director of education, but have not yet heard from them,” said a Thane college principal . The principal of a suburban college said, “Students have listed their names with us, but without approvals, we can’t start admissions.”
