Admissions to FYJC: Web woes, chaos on Day 1

MUMBAI: Unclear instructions from the state’s education department on filling new applications online for admissions to first-year junior college (FYJC) created chaos among students on Monday. Thousands queued up outside guidance centres across the city as they were unable to login to the admissions website.

The department will hold a special admission round for students unhappy with the seats allocated to them. Students have time until Wednesday to apply for admissions. Students were told to collect the new login id and password from the nearest guidance centre, which were distributed on August 5 and 6. When the site opened on Monday morning, students were unable to access it using the new login and password. On rushing to the guidance centre, they were told they had to first use the old login id to enter the site and then make changes to part 2 of the application form using the new id.
“The chaos could have been avoided if the department had clarified this earlier,” said Priyank Bhansali, an FYJC aspirant who stood in line for hours outside the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Parsee Charitable School and Junior College in Charni Road.
Students said they were not given any guidance even when they filled their forms in June.
