MUMBAI: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis wants the Centre to provide a drone-based surveillance system for remote areas of Maharashtra. The demand was made by the chief minister during the 11th interstate council meeting called by Prime minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. This is the first time that the state government has made such a demand.

“CM Fadnavis demands help from Central Govt for drone surveillance based information system for remote areas,” tweets CMO Maharashtra.
The move will help the state in tackling naxal activities effectively, said a senior official from state home department. Many districts in the state are still affected by naxal activities, including Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Gondia and parts of Nanded district.
The chief minister also want joint jurisdiction of border areas which are currently under the jurisdiction of central forces. The CM is of the view that this will help the state in improving the situation, said an official from CMO.
He also demanded compensation from the Centre for the revenue loss caused by implementation of Good and Services Tax (GST). The CM said that Maharashtra is in full favour of GST.
However, the state has to face a loss of Rs14,000 crore every year. The state wants the Centre to compensate the losses for the next five years. In addition, GST should be increased by one per cent in the states like Maharashtra that are marching forward in production sector to help them in removing their revenue losses.
