The police are now investigating the involvement of college staff in the case.

According to police sources, the college had on August 14, as per the directions of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), expelled five students found using fake caste certificates.

However, Ibrahim Noorani, 28, a former student of Sydenham College, allegedly called up the director of the college and threatened him for expelling the students.

The college then informed the police after which Noorani was arrested.

The police claimed that during preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to have facilitated the students to get admission to the MBA course using fake certificates.

Noorani was produced before the court on Tuesday. The court has remanded him in police custody until Saturday.
