MUMBAI: Close to 86% first-year junior college (FYJC) aspirants – 22,273 of the 25,723 students – were allotted seats in the second special merit list announced on Tuesday. A third round is likely to be held to give students another chance to bag seats in colleges of their choice.

The students allotted seats on Tuesday need to confirm their admissions and pay the fees on Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 5pm at the respective colleges.

The special round, which was open for first-time applicants, students who appeared for repeat exams and those who are not pleased with the seats allotted to them in the earlier rounds, was conducted at the behest of students who were unhappy with the seats previously allotted to them.

Among Tuesday’s allotments 9,910 students got their first preference, 3,162 students were allocated second preference and 2,008 the third preference. Most of the allotments were in the commerce stream.

Many students were happy with the seats allotted to them. “I finally got admission to Hinduja College, which was my top preference,” said Zoya Merchant, a student from Bombay Central, who was allotted Elphinstone College in Fort in the third merit list in July. “I had lost all hope of getting a college of my choice, but decided to try in this round as a last attempt.”
