Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s fight against corruption and black money is steadfastly gathering momentum with around 1.5 lakh people promising to join the fast-unto-death in Delhi.
Ramdev, who is spearheading the Satyagrah Against Corruption, will be staging an agitation and fast-unto-death in Delhi from June 4 onwards, demanding that the Central government recover black money stashed away in foreign countries by politicians and declare it as public property. Ramdev is also demanding a ban on high denomination currency notes, which he says, is a reason for rampant corruption. He also wants the corrupt to be sentenced to death.
Volunteers launched a toll-free landline number on May 9. A missed call from any mobile number on the toll free number – 0223308112 – will register the number in their database and updates of the campaign will be sent through text messages.
“Within a week of activating the toll-free number, nearly one crore people have given a missed call. Around 1.5 lakh people have vowed to fast with Baba Ramdev in Delhi,” said Raman Tiwari, a volunteer.
Volunteers, who are spread throughout the country, record the number of registrations daily.
Volunteers have also launched online campaigns on social networking sites such as Facebook, Orkut and Twitter. Their Facebook page, named Bharat Swabhiman Trust (Official), has registered 3,569 members.
