Vishal Wahade was the son of a construction worker with A and M Construction.

“I was washing clothes near the uncovered tank in the morning, while Vishal was playing with the children nearby. I went to our shanty to put the clothes away. Within a few minutes, a worker told me that my son had fallen inside (the tank),” said Sangeeta, his mother.

Workers drained the tank in an attempt to save the boy.

Vishal was rushed to the nearby VN Desai hospital where doctors attempted to revive him, but were unsuccessful.

The Vakola police and victim’s family claimed the tank is usually kept uncovered so that so that pipes could be put through.

A second hole accessing the same tank is covered with a thin metal sheet.

“We have registered a case of accidental death. If we find any evidence of negligence on the part of the contractor, we will take action against him,” said Assistant Police Inspector Jitendra Kamble of the Vakola police station.

In December 2009, a three-year-old boy had drowned in a water tank at a Tardeo construction site.
