According to the police, the girl identified as Sanjana Ajay Bahera, was a resident of Ketan Fernandes Chawl in Natyanand Nagar at Wadala.

She was playing outside her house without supervision. While playing, Bahera wandered off to Thakur Patil apartments in the locality and accidentally fell into the well located nearby.

Locals spotted the girl and informed the police and fire brigade, who fished her out from the well and rushed her to the KEM hospital. She was declared dead on arrival.

“We have registered a case of accidental death and have sent the body for postmortem,” said Vilas Shinde, senior police inspector of Wadala police station.

On Tuesday, Shanawaz Khan (3), who was also playing near his house, accidentally fell in an open drain in Shivaji Nagar and died. The locals fished out his body from the open gutter.

Meanwhile, even after three days, fire control officers are still trying to recover the body of three-year-old Ayub Shaikh who fell into a drain and died.

“We have not stopped the rescue operations and are still trying recover the body,” said a fire control officer.
