A 22-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Goregaon (East) on Wednesday.
A 22-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Goregaon (East) on Wednesday.
The police have arrested the victim’s husband and in-laws on charges of abetment to suicide. No suicide note has been found.
The deceased, Maya Waghmare, lived with her husband Manish, his parents and sister at Aarey Colony. The couple got married in 2008. and had no children, said the Aarey Colony police.
The victim’s parent’ alleged that Maya’s in-law had taken Rs50,000 as dowry at the time of marriage. Later, they kept asking for more to buy a house and a car.
When Maya refused to get more money from her parents, her husband and in-laws allegedly harassed her physically and mentally said the police.
A relative of the family has said that Maya’s family’s allegations are false.
