27-year-old arrested for cheating

A 27-year-old man from Mumbai has been arrested by the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime wing of CB-CID police for allegedly cheating a person in Tamil Nadu of Rs 2.06 lakh through the internet with the promise of providing him a job.

A 27-year-old man from Mumbai has been arrested by the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime wing of CB-CID police for allegedly cheating a person in Tamil Nadu of Rs 2.06 lakh through the internet with the promise of providing him a job.

A CB-CID press release said that the victim, from Tiruchirapalli received an email in September 2009, stating that there was a vacancy for a supervisor in a hotel in the UK.

He responded and applied for the post.

As instructed in the email, he deposited Rs 2.06 lakh in three of the man's accounts in Mumbai. When he did not get a reply, he lodged a complaint with the cyber crime cell, the release said.

The man was arrested on June 2. A mobile phone and a bank debit card were seized from him.

He was produced in a magistrate court in Mumbai and was brought to Chennai after obtaining transit custody, it said where he was remanded to judicial custody.
