The Ghatkopar police said Dharmendra, Sanjay and Dilip Yadav had a dispute with their uncle, Rajnath Sukhai Yadav, over his room at Transport Compound near Jivdaya Lane.

“On September 11, when the four four were filling water from a local tap, an argument broke out between the nephews and Rajnath. The three, in a fit of rage, strangled their uncle,” said Uttam Kolekar, inspector of the Ghatkopar police station.

Rajnath was rushed to nearby Rajawadi Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The three men fled to their village in Uttar Pradesh, but returned to meet their family members when they learnt that they had disowned them for killing Rajnath.

Kolhekar said that on returning to Mumbai on September 20, the accused went to their sister’s house in Kandivli.

“Their sister, who was still upset with them, tipped us off following which we arrested them from her house,” said Kolhekar.

He added that the accused have confessed to the crime, and said they had not intended to kill their uncle.
