A 35-year-old man was found hanging in his apartment in Dindoshi, Goregaon (east), on Monday.

A 35-year-old man was found hanging in his apartment in Dindoshi, Goregaon (east), on Monday. The police believe Mangesh Sadashiv Patankar, who worked as a manager in a chemical company, committed suicide, but are unsure why as they have not found a suicide note.

Patankar lived in Gokuldham Complex with his wife, mother and sister. He is said to have hanged himself from the ceiling fan while his mother and sister were in the flat, but in the other room. His wife, who is employed with a private firm, had already left for work.

The incident came to light around 9.30 am when his mother and sister went looking for him. Patankar was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

“We have not found a suicide note from his person or at the residence. His family said he had no stress at work or any domestic problems. He was also not suffering from any ailment. His family said he had never attempted suicide before this and seem clueless about what prompted him to take such a drastic step,” a police officer from Dindoshi police station said, requesting anonymity.

The police have registered a case of accidental death as they do not suspect foul play, and are awaiting the post-mortem report.
