The dumper driver, identified as Sakir Ali Chaudhary, 24, is from Uttar Pradesh, the police said.

The deceased, Shankar Rajaiya Gundani, was running a video graphic business in Chandivli, Sakinaka, since many years, the police added.

According to Sahar airport police, the incident took place around 12.30am when Gundani was heading to his resident on his scooter. Chaudhary, who was driving at high speed, hit Gundani’s two-wheeler from the rear.

Since the accused was speeding he could not control the vehicle and ran over Gundani, an officer said.

Gundani had sustained severe injuries on right side of his body. A passerby informed the police and rushed Gundani to Cooper Hospital but he died while undergoing treatment.

Chaudhary, tried to escape from the spot but the police managed to arrest him.

“Chaudhary has been arrested for causing death due to rash and negligent driving. He was produced in the court and has been remanded to judicial custody,” said Dilip Patil senior inspector of Sahar airport police station.

Gundani’s family was informed about the incident and his body has been handed over to his brother.
