According to the Bhandup police, the accused entered Pokhre's Tembipada residence under the pretext of asking help with an address. Her husband was away at work and the woman was alone at home. “When I answered the door, they pushed me and forcibly entered the house,” Pokhre said in her statement to the police.

The accused then snatched the victim’s earrings and gold chain following which, they locked her in the bathroom. ''The accused took along cash and valuables worth Rs1.33 lakh and fled from the house,” said an officer from Bhandup police, on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

The incident came to light only when Pokhre’s daughters returned home from tuitions and unbolted the door.

Senior inspector of Bhandup police station, S Nadgouda said that a case of robbery had been registered and a hunt for the accused was on.
