The 50-year-old unidentified woman, who robbed another of her gold jewellery worth Rs 1.50 lakh, is still untraceable.
The accused had spiked Amlani Patil’s (58) drink on Wednesday morning and fled with the jewellery she was wearing, the Dahisar police said.
Patil, a resident of Sahadev Pandey chawl in Dahisar (East), was going to a bank to pay her telephone bill.
The accused approached Patil around 11.45 am near a BEST bus stop at Manav Kalyan Kendra and involved her in a conversation. She told Patil that she could arrange for monetary aid for her from the Prime Minister’s Fund for elderly.
Patil fell for the assurances and also took a sip of a soft drink offered by the accused. Soon she started feeling unconscious and when she woke up the next day she found herself in the hospital, the police said.
Patil who is undergoing treatment at Jai Ambe Polyclinic told the police that the accused asked her about her family and assured help in procuring monetary aid.
“As both the woman were of the same age, Patil without suspecting any foul play consumed the drink. The accused removed the jewellery Patil was wearing and fled. Some passersby saw Patil lying unconscious and rushed her to the hospital,” said Assistant Police Inspector P. Patil.
A case of cheating has been registered against the unidentified woman.
