A seven-month-old girl was found abandoned outside a church in Santacruz (West) late on Sunday night.

The Santacruz police have registered a case under section 317 (abandoning a child below 12 years of age by parents or a caretaker) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the police, the child was found near the gate of the Parle Church by the staff there. When the church authorities were unable to find who left the child there, they decided to inform the police.
Madhukar Chaudhari, senior inspector, Santacruz police station, said, “Our team went to the spot as soon as we got the information. Currently, the infant is being taken care of by the church authorities, but she will soon be taken to the Mankhurd Children’s Home.”
The police are searching for the person who abandoned the baby. The police said they would be circulating the photographs of the child to get any information about her parents. They would also be inquiring with the locals to get any leads.
However, if till four months none of her family members are traced, the girl will be sent for adoption.
