An unidentified man, who pretended to be an expert in Ayurvedic medicine, cheated a 77-year-old Vasai resident of her gold jewellery on Wednesday.
The accused entered Kalavati Dani’s flat in Vishwakarma Nagar in Vasai (West) on Wednesday, the Manikpur police said. Dani lives with her husband Kishore, 77, and son Narendra, 45. Dani is suffering from a leg ailment, the police said.
A well-dressed man came to her house and told her that her neighbour had given him her reference and assured that he could cure the ailment with help of Ayurvedic treatment.
Dani allowed him and asked her husband to get some boiled water for the treatment. The accused then asked Dani to keep her two gold bangles in the bowl after which she had to drink the water as it had medicinal properties.
When Dani placed the bangles inside the bowl he said he would return in a while but fled with the bangles.
After realising that she had been robbed, Dani approached the police and lodged a complaint against the unidentified person
“We have registered a case of cheating against the person,” said Chandrakant Jadhav, police inspector from Manikpur police station.
