93% of city wants PMO under Jan Lokpal Bill

A total of 93% Mumbaiites voted to bring the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) under the jurisdiction of Jan Lokpal Bill.

A total of 93% Mumbaiites voted to bring the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) under the jurisdiction of Jan Lokpal Bill.

The Mumbai chapter of India Against Corruption (IAC) which staged agitations for the Lokpal Bill, conducted a public poll from May 10-20 on Facebook, through SMSes, emails and outside railway stations.

As many as 16,872 people participated in the poll of which 15,655 (93%) voted to bring PMO under Lokpal, while 865 (5%) said no and 352 chose can’t say.

On Facebook, 14,123 people voted to bring the PMO under the Jan Lokpal bill, while 721 (5%) said No and 346 (2%) were undecided. Through SMS’s and emails, 486 people supported the inclusion of the PMO under the Bill and 53 said no.

In the polls conducted outside railway stations, 1, 046 supported the inclusion, 89 said no and six were undecided. “In the last panel meeting, the decision to bring the PMO under the jurisdiction of the Bill was strongly debated. Therefore we decided to take a public opinion,” said Mayank Gandhi, IAC Mumbai coordinator.
