Another arrest in fake encounter case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), investigating the alleged fake encounter case of suspected Chhota Rajan aide Ram Narayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya, arrested a Navi Mumbai builder on Thursday.

Dismissed encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma is the key accused in the case. Janardhan Bhange alias Janya Seth with whom deceased Lakhan Bhaiyya allegedly had money dispute with, was arrested outside the sessions court after the court rejected his anticipatory bail application.

According to the charge sheet, Gupta was made to speak to Bhange just before the encounter. Bhange allegedly asked Gupta sarcastically that how was he 'feeling'. In the charge sheet, one of the witnesses had said Lakkhan Bhaiyya was killed at the behest of Bhange. In the anticipatory bail application, Bhange had said he had no connection with the case and that he was bed ridden.

The court rejected his application observing that prima facie there is a case against him.

On Thursday, Bhange, who had come to court in a stretcher, was arrested. Lakhan Bhaiya was killed in an alleged fake encounter on November 11, 2006 in Nana Nani Park in Versova.
