Bhattacharya is a senior member, claims CPI (Maoists)

A letter from the spokesperson for the central committee of the CPI (Maoists) has acknowledged that sixty-five-year-old Aseem Kumar Bhattacharya is a senior cadre of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). Presley Thomas and Rahul Mahajani report.

A letter from the spokesperson for the central committee of the CPI (Maoists) has acknowledged that sixty-five-year-old Aseem Kumar Bhattacharya is a senior cadre of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist).


The Maharashtra anti-terrorist squad had on March 2 arrested Bhattacharya, a mechanical draughtsman, from his Dombivali flat, for allegedly supplying dismantled parts of weapons to the Maoists.

The March letter states that Bhattacharya was a top member of the Maoist cadre. ‘Comrades Sadanala Ramakrishna alias Santosh, 62, and Aseem Kumar Bhattacharya, 65, were the seniors among the arrested,’ the letter states. Sadanala Ramakrishna, a senior member of the organisation’s central technical committee, was arrested from Kolkata.

The letter states that Ramakrishna has been a party member for nearly four decades “The mechanical engineer graduated from the Regional Engineering College (REC) of Warangal,” the letter states.

The letter also acknowledges the association of Deepak Kumar Pargania and Sukumar Mandal and others who were arrested from Kolkata, and Dinesh Wankhede, Suman Gawde and Paru Patel, arrested from Thane.
