Big test for cold-mix technology this monsoon; two roads ready

Two new roads built exclusively using this technology — one in Chinchpokli and the other in Kandivli — are ready to be used. This technology has never been used in India before.

The road in Chinchpokli was constructed on Dattaram Marg, opposite Sardar Hotel. It is 148 metres long and 10 metres wide. The one in Kandivli (West) is 38 metres long and 9 metres wide and was constructed on Khajuria Road up to Garden Plot.

“The Carboncor technology can revolutionalise the city’s roads, as roads are crucial in improving the city’s infrastructure. I am grateful to the civic authorities for giving us this opportunity,” said Deepak Shah, MD, Sumer Infrastructures, the pioneer of Carboncor in India. He said the road at Kandivli was constructed in just a day, while the one at Chinchpokli took two days.

Till now, the civic body had been constructing roads using either hot asphalt, or a hot sprayed bitumen with stone chips mixed into the hot mix. Last year after the recommendations of Standing Technical Advisory Committee (STAC), the administration had finalised four technologies which use the cold-mix technology— Carboncor, Wonder Patch, Patchmaker and Road Bond.
