With the marathon just five days away the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) gave its clearance to the event on Tuesday.

The marathon organisers had asked for a non-objection certificate (NOC) from the BMC for using public space, advertising fee, putting up the pandals and for other logistics.

The BMC and the marathon organisers have been at loggerheads with payment issues and continuing with their rigid stand, the BMC has said that they will not provide for any civic facilities for the event.

“We have given the clearance for the event, but will not carry out any civic work for them,” said additional municipal commissioner, Mohan Adtani.
He also added that had not returned the deposits worth Rs 20 lakh taken from the organisers last year and will cut from the same deposits if they don’t clean the area and remove the hoardings.

The BMC has only recently waived the Rs1.88 crore that it had spent on the marathon in 2009. The traffic police however say that they are yet to give NOC for the route that the organizers have requested for the event, that is, from CST to Bandra via the Sealink.

The event is scheduled for January 15.
